Korean Kiosk Orders: What to Check Before Paying

By Jeremy (제레미) · · 3 min read

The best time to catch an ordering mistake is before payment. Use five checks: where, what, how many, which options, and how much.

Original learning examples from MenuNori’s fictional shop. Restaurant screens, recipes and prices vary. How we make these guides.

Where: read the order type

매장 means eating at the restaurant in this context; 포장 means taking the order away. Do not assume the machine remembers your previous visit or the selection you wanted. Read the current setting in the basket.

What: match complete dish names

떡볶이 and 치즈떡볶이 are different menu entries. An item photograph can look similar even when the name differs. In mission 4, an incorrect tteokbokki is already in the basket. You need to remove it, then add fish cake soup alongside one gimbap. Adding the correct dishes without deleting the wrong one does not finish the mission.

How many: check each line

수량 means quantity. Two noodle portions and one dumpling portion should appear as 라면 × 2 and 군만두 × 1. A cart badge showing 3 only tells you the overall quantity; it cannot tell you whether the three portions are the right ones.

Which options: look underneath the name

Check for 순한맛 (mild), 보통맛 (regular), and 치즈 추가 (extra cheese) where relevant. If the option you want is missing, go back before paying. In MenuNori you can remove a line and add the dish again. A real kiosk may also offer a direct edit button.

How much: do one simple calculation

Practice orderCalculationTotal
1 gimbap + 1 dumpling portion₩3,500 + ₩3,500₩7,000
1 tteokbokki + cheese₩4,500 + ₩1,000₩5,500
2 ramyeon + 1 dumpling portion2 × ₩4,000 + ₩3,500₩11,500

These are invented prices. At an actual restaurant, use its current menu, option prices, and displayed final total. If something is unclear, ask before confirming a payment.

Do a deliberate mistake rehearsal

Try mission 1 with the right food but the wrong order type. The result explains the mismatch and lets you keep editing. Then correct only the mode and submit again. This is a useful habit: fix the specific mistake rather than restarting a whole order unnecessarily.

For your final rehearsal, complete mission 5 without hints. Read each line, confirm the total is under ₩9,000, and then place the practice order. You have practiced a repeatable check, not memorized a particular restaurant’s screen.

Nothing is purchased or sent to a restaurant here. The confirmation screen is a simulation, and no payment information is collected.

Find the mistake in this slip

FICTIONAL ORDER TO CHECK

매장
라면 × 1 — 보통맛
군만두 × 2

Total: ₩11,000

The mission asks for two ramyeon portions and one dumpling portion. The slip contains three menu units, which sounds right if you only look at the cart badge. The quantities are reversed. Correcting the lines changes the total to ₩11,500: 2 × ₩4,000 plus ₩3,500.

If you have already paid

Keep the receipt or order number and speak to staff. Show the specific line that is wrong, rather than starting another paid order on the machine. Whether an order can be changed depends on the restaurant and whether preparation has started. MenuNori gives unlimited retries because no real food or payment is involved.

Quick check: does the right total prove you chose the right dishes?

No. Two different combinations can have the same total. Check the order type, names, quantities, and options before using the amount as your last check.
